A recently posted job listing has been discovered on Roblox’s career portal that makes very clear where the game could be headed next. The job title is listed as “Senior Software Engineer, PlayStation Console.” Suffice to say, if Roblox is hiring developers to work specifically on the PlayStation platform then it only makes sense that Roblox will soon be brought to PlayStation consoles. Roblox isn’t currently available on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

If the job listing wasn’t clear, the body of the job listing certainly is. The job description explains that the Gaming Console Software Engineer will be responsible for building and supporting Roblox’s engine on the “Sony PlayStation platform.” Further, listed under the “You Will” subheading for job responsibilities, the role is tasked with developing and supporting the “Roblox client application” for gaming consoles “like Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4.” This job position is clearly designed specifically for working on Roblox on PlayStation platforms.
With all of that said, it’s still no certainty that Roblox will be coming to PlayStation platforms, or if it is, it may not be any time soon. While some believe that Roblox signed an exclusivity deal with Xbox, a more rational explanation for the lack of Roblox on PlayStation is the game’s complicated monetization and content creation systems. PlayStation publishing rules may not allow for Roblox’s platform to be brought to its consoles, or Roblox may not want to change its game to meet PlayStation’s expectations.
Regardless, one of the world’s most successful games potentially coming to the current industry-leading console would be big news indeed. It’s stunning that Roblox isn’t already on other platforms, to say the least. And the fact that it isn’t is perhaps what makes it feel so unlikely that it’s happening.
Until it’s officially announced, Roblox fans should probably put off buying a PlayStation console. There are clearly complications to consider, regardless of the Roblox team’s hiring practices. This is still good news, though. This is a step toward bringing Roblox to PlayStation, whether it’s in the near or far future.
Roblox is available now on PC, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
