The problems began with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition’s launch on PC. Within hours of launch, Rockstar officially announced that it had taken the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC down for maintenance. The nature of the maintenance wasn’t clear, but it was obviously an emergency related to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition’s release. The only problem is that the Rockstar Games Launcher is used to access all of Rockar’s PC games. Taking it offline made it impossible for anyone to play their own games.

Since then, another discovery has been made. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition purchasers wondering what’s going on noticed that since Rockstar took its launcher offline, it also removed the PC version of the game from its storefront. Rockstar’s storefront previously had a listing for the PC version of the game alongside the PS4, Xbox, PS5, and Switch versions of it. The PC button, however, has since been removed.

The latest update from Rockstar came early Friday morning, with the support account for Rockstar telling fans that it is thankful for their “patience and understanding.” Rockstar continues to work on restoring the Rockstar Games Launcher, as well as “supported titles.”

The ambiguity surrounding the situation, as well as in Rockstar’s statements on the matter, is a major part of what’s driving frustration surrounding the issue. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition buyers don’t know if or when they’ll have full access to their game. Rockstar PC games doesn’t know what’s going on with the launcher. And no one knows why this is happening or how long it will take.

What comes next, only Rockstar knows. There’s clearly work being done to get the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC back as soon as possible. However, it’s possible that there are serious issues tied to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition that need to be fixed, too. And even after the Rockstar Games Launcher comes back, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition may be kept off the platform for further work. Rockstar will hopefully provide further information as soon as it’s able.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is available now on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
